Yesterday information was circulated that advised that from January 1 life jackets must comply with Australian Standard AS 4758.

However the RMS website states that life jackets of types 1,2 & 3 complying with previos standards (AS 1512, AS 2260 & AS 1499) in use before October 7, 2016 will continue to be recognised as acceptable. This contradicts the information circulated yesterday, but the recommendation that life jackets be replaced every 10 is worth considering.
