Australians love sport, but which ones do they actually play? National survey results paint a surprising picture. (published in The Conversation, Nov 1st 2024)
AusPlay is a large national survey that focuses on how much sport and physical activity Australians participate in. It collects national, state and territory data on more than 600 different activities and who participates in them.
Out of the 10 most popular sports in Australia for the 55+ ages were bushwalking, which came in at 3rd and cycling at 5th. Sorry kayakers you weren’t in the group of 10, and yes data on kayaking was collected! So GO walkers and cyclists. You kayakers have a challenge to rope in more friends, family and complete strangers and indoctrinate them on the joys of kayaking.
