Bushwalking NSW is the peak body for bush walkers in NSW and the ACT. It represents the interests of over 10,000 bush walkers from 66 bush walking clubs throughout the state, and provides a united voice to local, state and federal government agencies and other bodies on issues affecting bush walkers. (Bushwalking NSW was formerly known as the Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs of NSW). The WEA Illawarra Ramblers Club is affilliated to Bushwalking NSW.
Bushwalking NSW
- Unites organisations interested in recreational bush walking, camping and outdoor activities, including alpine walking, orienteering, rogaining, liloing, abseiling, canyoning, caving, canoeing, kayaking, cycling and snow skiing
- Promotes the social and health benefits of bush walking and outdoor recreation to people of all nationalities, abilities and backgrounds
- Strives for the establishment, preservation and wise management of national parks and wilderness areas by creating public awareness of environmental issues and lobbying government agencies
- Represents NSW and ACT clubs to Bushwalking Australia, the peak national body for non-commercial bush walking, and assists other like-minded organisations
- Provides information on conservation, bush safety, bush walking, and tracks and access issues through monthly e-newsletters, The Bushwalker quarterly magazine, and email alerts
- Organises insurance for bush walking clubs through its affiliation with Bushwalking Australia, obtaining cost effective rates due to a large membership
- Liaises with and supports the Bushwalkers Wilderness Rescue Squad (BWRS) in their emergency services work.
