Thu 17 Apr, 2025 Trip Away: Easter Car Camping @ Old Snowy Camp, Northern Sector, Kosciusko NP
Thursday 17th April to Monday 21st April, 2025
Joint trip for Illawarra Ramblers and Shoalhaven Bush Walkers
The plan is use the beautiful Old Snowy campsite as a base camp and do day walks from here. Facilities are very basic, you will need to bring all food, your own drinking water, firewood. Car camping also allows you to bring all those little luxuries that you wouldn’t carry on a pack walk! (A good book, esky, chairs, lots of happy hour food and a bottle of wine, whatever … enjoy!)
Planned walks include:
Currango Homestead & the nearby Tantangara Reservoir (beautiful, expansive views)
There also the option to explore the numerous fire trails on mountain bikes if you so desire. (Not part of the club trip, just an available option)
Or just take a day off and relax around the campfire! 🙂
You will need to organize your own transport, and have decent gear that will stand up to the weather of the High Plains environment. (Campsite is relatively sheltered but the High Plains is a mountain environment, campsite does get some wind!)

Walk from Little Bay to La Perouse, via Cape Banks, Henry Head and Bare Island fort in Botany Bay NP. Mostly raised walkways, some rocks/sand/roads. A variety of interesting sights including spectacular coastal headlands/beaches/posh golf courses & houses/historic buildings/armaments. Bring own lunch/snacks/drinks as no cafes for 4 hours! (how will we cope). Minimal shade. Free time in La Perouse at end of walk (yes cafes).
Train, tram and bus to Little Bay and reverse order back from La Perouse.
If not too sunny we will have lunch at Cape Banks and maybe watch some golfers teeing off into or over Botany Bay waters. See URL below for more information.

The museum will not be open on the day of the walk but the website has a great picture of the old hospital. And will give some idea of how the redevelopment has retained many of the old buildings.
